Talk Program with Dr. Bindheshwor Pathak
Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW), B.P Koirala India-Nepal Foundation and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) jointly oraganized a talk program on "Innovative Sanitation Management Practices" with Dr. Bindeshwor Pathak, a world-renowned founder of Sulabh Sanitation and Social Reform Movement, on 7 September 2008 at Hotel Himalaya, Kupondole, Lalitpur.
IYS-2008 Nepal Desk took the key responsibility for the preparatory works including paper presentation and invitation to the guest. On the occasion, dignitaries as Rakesh Sood, Honorable Ambassador of India to Nepal, Mr. Umakant Jha, Secretary of MPPW, Mr. Suman Prasad Sharma, Joint Secretary of MPPW expressed their valuable views. Mr. Krishna Prasad Acharya, Deputy Director General of DWSS had delivered the welcome speech. And Mr. Dinesh Thapaliya, chief executive officer of KMC had also shared remarks on sanitation. Similarly, Mr. Kamal Adhikari, desk secretary of the IYS-2008 Nepal Desk presented the paper on status and sanitation in Nepal. Dr. Pathak shared about several aspects of SULABH sanitation and clarified the queries of the participants. In the program, some 200 participants representing Ministries, government departments, UNICEF, WHO, UN-Habitat, UNDP, donor agencies, I/NGOs, media, research institutions, private organizations, consultancy firms, university, civil society, etc. were present. At that time, secretary of MPPW handed over the token of appreciation to Dr. Pathak on behalf of the SCNSA in recognition to his exemplary contribution to sanitation. Nepal Country Plan for the IYS-2008, Sarsafai Sandesh (IYS newsletter) and related materials were also distributed. A lively interaction held among participants was indeed fruitful for exchanging the experiences and learning the lessons on sanitation.
