IYS-2008 and Urban Sanitation
As envisaged by Nepal Country Plan for the IYS-2008, IYS-Desk, UN-Habitat and ENPHO jointly organized a workshop on Decentralized Waste Water Treatment System (DEWATS) on 12th May 2008 for addressing the urban-sanitation problems. The participants of the meeting shared their experiences and highlighted that wastewater should be treated before releasing in to the river systems. For this, the workshop emphasized on the capacity development, policy level commitments, knowledge management, and research and development. On the day, Mr. Khom Bahadur Subedi, Chief of Environmental Sanitation Section of DWSS released the book " Constructed Wetlands Manual" published on the occasion of IYS-2008 by UN Habitat.
