Objectives
The overall objective of Nepal IYS-2008 is to form a broad base to step ahead MDG and achieve NG in hygiene and sanitation sector. The specific objectives of the Nepal IYS have been set in line with IYS global initiatives as follows:
- To raise awareness of the national sanitation crisis and mobilize resources and seek commitments to address the problems
- To sensitize planners, policy makers, political entities, private sectors and other stakeholders at national level to seek their commitments on policy implementation, financing and innovation.
- To create ownership of District Development Committees (DDCs), Village Development Committees (VDCs), municipalities, Community Based Organization/Non-Governmental Organizations (CBO/NGOs), schools and communities to optimally utilize local resources to change behavior on hygiene and sanitation.
- To create an enabling environment for developing hygiene and sanitation as the matter of Dignity, Identity and Pride (DIP) including health, social development, tourism and environmental sustainability.
- To mobilize poor, disadvantaged, slum and squatter people for the use of latrine and promotion of hygiene and sanitation behaviors.
- To strengthen the institutional capacity and group dynamism of stakeholders at different levels to lead hygiene and sanitation.
